Falls Creek BIG AIR 2009 |
| It is that time of year again – when all the budding grommets, snowboarders and skiers, defy gravity and go for Big Air!!! Staged in the resort’s entertainment precinct, just above the Frying Pan Inn, the annual Air and Style's Big Air is very entertaining event that entices participants, particularly the more adventurous, who are seeking the opportunity to match manoeuvres (with various degrees of difficulty) with other riders. The annual carnage (entertainment-plus) is always a fun night and this year’s Big Air will live up to expectations. The Big Air competition is an unusual event. The open jam format provides numerous spectacular visuals and the serious competition aspect means that the two jumps the riders nominate are the ones they really have to ‘stick’ for judging. To impress the panel of three judges participants will need to show manoeuvres with various degrees of difficulty. A panel of three invited judges score each entrants effort based on manoeuvres with various degrees of difficulty. To impress the judges (and pick up some of the prize pool) participants will not only fly high but include Amplitude, Execution and Difficulty, in their chosen jumps during the evening’s final showdown. Last year’s event was watched by a huge crowd and Watkin McLennan was judged the best skier (and left with $1,750) and Falls Creek local boarder Keiran McLaughlin was declared the best boarder adding the same amount to his bank balance. Whilst this event is for experienced snowboarders and skiers only (helmets compulsory) there's always an enthusiastic amateur prepared to keep the crowd enthralled with amazing aerial performances. Entries of $40 per competitor should be in to the Falls Creek Race and Events Office by no later than 9am Saturday 15th August. A practice session takes place between 10am and 12noon. Eliminations begin at 1pm and the finals (under lights in the Village Bowl) start at 6:30pm. Presentations will be held straight after the completion of this very exciting event. The Frying Pan team will build a snow bar for resort guests and a DJ will provide appropriate music to accompany the high flyers. Don’t miss the non-stop action under lights outside Fryers this Saturday 15 August at Falls Creek Alpine Resort. For more information contact Falls Creek Race and Events 03 5758 1026. |
