Teenage Rampage / Australian Junior Series Wraps Up

Perisher valley was a battle ground for three days as the Australian Junior snowboard series sponsored by Ocean and Earth snow division took place.

It was mate against mate and state against state as the cream of the Australian junior snowboarding roster fought it out over three days.

With each day consisting of a new discipline Boardercross on day 1 , slopestyle day 2 and halfpipe on day 3. The competitors would battle for the win each day. Results from each discipline tallied at the end would show the best all round snowboarders in the country by age group.

Day 1 Boarder cross was blustery and cold .The course was fast and technical with a couple of bullet proof sections which soon sorted out the field. It was on like Donkey Kong from the first heat till the finals were run and won. There were a few surprises throughout the day as some off the favourites went down.

Day 2 was a pearler on the well prepared and busy slope style course. The sun was out and there wasn't a breath of air for most off the day. The beats were pumping and all the contestants were jibbing and jumping. Some of the younger competitors in the girls and boys showed lots of courage taking on the bigger hits especially towards the end as the course turned to spring like conditions. To finish off was the O and E expression session where all the competitors relaxed to throw down some of the best combos of the day.

All the competitors were frothing when they saw the pipe prepared for them on day 3. In the morning practice the pipe was firm but no one cared as they busted out and polished there tricks ready for the main event. The day was picture perfect and there was some nice runs throughout the day. Some of the older crew were going massive in the early heats when the pipe was fresh and were being snapped and videoed by journos ,spectators and fellow competitors as they hucked down the pipe. The highlight of the day was when ladies winter Olympic half pipe Gold medallist Torah Bright showed up to open the Pipe in her own name. You could hear a pin drop as she took the microphone to say a few inspiring words before cutting the ribbon and opening the pipe.

Greg Randall did a great job with keeping all competitors , parents, judges ,sponsors ,mates ,helpers and hungry punters fed and hydrated with sausages flying off the plate from start to finish over the 3 days.

A big shout out to Stuart Davis Mehan and Kathy Randall and associate sponsors who have contributed to this unearthing off Australian snowboarding talent and have made for another Great Junior Snowboard series again in 2010.

See you in 2011 .

Big congrats to Jesse Kennedy who we deemed as the winner of a check out in the 2011 issues of Australian / NZ Snowboarder Magazine. Jesse's smooth skills on both the jumps and rails left a big impression during the slopestyle event, then he managed to back things up the next day in the pipe too.

Ben Randall and Alexandra Fitch were the male / female winners of the Junior Series overall standings.
