Reader Gallery Submission Guidelines

The gallery is designed to showcase your shots at their best. To help us do this, please read through the following tips to ensure your snaps look as good as they possibly can on our site.

Due to popular demand, we've developed some guidelines to help your shots look their best. So have a read through and see if they're any help.

If you're not sure about any of the following guidelines, don't sweat it. Send ‘em in anyway and we'll handball them to our photo Ed for a bit of digital lovin'. . .

Format

You can send us your shots as JPEGs, TIFFs, or RAWS. We want your pics to look their best, so if you’re not confident in your editing abilities, we’re happy to colour-correct and sharpen them for you. We can do this best if you send us photos at their native resolution, or as RAWS.

Please let us know if you don’t want us to adjust your images.

Send your submissions in one of the following formats:

  • JPEG (highest quality setting).
  • TIFF
  • PNG
  • RAW (this is the preferred format – we will optimise them for you)

Please DO NOT compress your images more than is necessary.

Size

Although you can submit photos at any size or resolution, all images will be cropped to 560 px (width) x 350 px (height) to display within the gallery.

Please bear the following points in mind when sending in your shots:

  • Vertical or square images will be cropped, so it may be better to allow a bit of extra room so the final crop is not too tight.
  • Tightly cropped or panoramic shots may crop strangely, so allow a bit of room around your images if possible.
  • If your horizon is not straight, please allow extras room for rotation.

Captions

All entries must be accompanied by the following information:

  • Your name - eg. Joe Bloggs
  • Your contact details – phone number, email & postal address.
  • Location of shot- eg. Thredbo or Perisher
  • Date shot - eg. 12th December 2007 or Winter ‘07
  • A brief caption (20-30 words) – This should detail something that you cannot see just by looking at the photo (eg. “This was the first time I'd ever ridden at Thredbo and after 20cm of pow the night before, the place was a shred-fest..”)

Material

We're not the board of film and literature classification, but . . .

Have a think about what you’re sending us. We’re open to pretty much anything, - and certainly appreciate a good chick shot as much as the next guy - but if you find yourself lurking in the bushes with a telephoto, or placing animals in compromising positions, it’s a safe bet your shots won’t be run

Please email us if you have any further queries…
